The Journey Begins

We're going our Separate Ways, but this isn't goodbye.

I sit here at the Dearborn train station awaiting the first leg of this trip. Thus begins a fun adventure. In two days, I will be in Cairo, eating new foods, seeing new people.

As the train departs the station, I welcome this experience with Open Arms. I have been patiently waiting for the opportunity to be part of an archaeological excavation again for quite some time. And to get this chance in Egypt, of all places, is a dream come true.

The Lights of the city are turning off, as the sun begins to wake Michigan. I should get some rest, but already I don't want to miss anything. There's nothing I need to see between Dearborn and Chicago, and I should be saving my energy for the long next two days.

I'll Be Alright Without You, I promise. You Be Good to Yourself while I am gone. The next three months will be over before you know it, and it will quickly become just a series of stories we discuss over dinner. There will be plenty of anecdotes to share, I am sure. I will have some stories I only share with you.

We pass Wayne. Ypsilanti. We stop in Ann Arbor. Kalamazoo. People disembark. Others begin their own journey. Mine is no different than theirs. I just have a lot more layovers.

Don't Stop Believing that you will see me again. Don't think I will forget you. Don't imagine I won't return to you. This is a side trip, not my final destination.

We ride through the thick fog, but that blanket is still not comfortable enough for sleep.

The next time I post here, it will very likely be from Cairo. And that thought is very well Why I cannot sleep. While ultimately this is nothing but a business trip, I cannot hide that excitement any longer.

The packing is complete.

The travel is set.

The train has left the station.

The wheels have begun to spin.

I'm on my way to Egypt.

Faithfully yours,

Sebastian
